Get the Word out on Recycling

You CAN recycle in Delta County . Come help us teach people how easy it is and what is the impact of recyclable materials on the landfills.

If you like talking to groups or know a group that needs a speaker  call  399-2940 .

Pictured here is a recycled washing machine now used as a mail box base.

Recycling education for kids and schools

Volunteers speak to Delta County school classes to educate children about the importance of recycling and how to do it in our rural area. Pictured here is a volunteer at a Hotchkiss school.

If you would like to schedule a presentation for your group, or enjoy speaking to schools or civic groups and want to get involved, call 399-2940.

Recycling trailer retired by county/Centralized broader service coming soon

Delta County announced the retirement of the recycle trailer which circulated in Paonia, Hotchkiss, Cedaredge, Delta and Crawford and the county landfill. The trailer needed expensive repairs and was very costly to operate and very limited in capacity.   The trailer was a free service of the county landfill. Costs saved from retiring the trailer will be used to build the infrastructure for an unlimited capacity recycle service at the landfill later in 2011. The new service will take a greater variety of recyclables.   Stay tuned for more news  and call 399-2940 for more information on recycling.

County Commissioners Vote Yes to North Fork Recycling Center

On December 19 the Delta County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously to establish a recycling station at the North Fork Transfer station. They will take all plastics 1-7, paper, magazines, glass, cans and aluminum.

The county has not yet announced when the new facility will open.

Thanks to everyone who wrote to the Board of County Commissioners and attended meetings to make this happen. It strengthens our potential recycling volume considerably and will surely extend the life of the current landfill.
